Lute FP This band is fantastic. Their tag “bastard Americana” neatly sums it up, fusing elements of county, folk, and rock, but seasoned with so many other flavors that at times I think the album is veering in an unexpected direction, but it always circles back to where it started. The music is elevated by superb songwriting, dueling male/female vocals, and musicianship. There’s a bit of an outlaw vibe, and the overall tone manages to feel dark and bright at the same time.

It was 17 the week she decided to creep, out of locked doors and capture the jeep, through stoplights and wetlands they call Island Lake, North into the Winter towards her fortune and fate, singin 'Oh mama, shed no tear for me!" Through bogs and fog, through white pine and oak, pull the truth in backwards and bury it in smoke, let out your breath now you can see Shangri la, as the makes the morning,, zigzagin through the bluffs, oh mama shed no tear for me it was 13 moons another ritual gone, in a skeletal room, burnin candles til dawn, staring at apostles through iced melted sand with red cliffs and night ships workin on a plan, now its a decade away from the source of the pain, how many more till it all goes away, gonna cut the waves to cross the bay, baptize my torture lost in the lakes oh mama shed no tear for me! She was 14 and noble, goin on dead a red threaded scarf, a hat, a bag, and a sled she knew the mystery perfect and bright but survivins not jivin ive gotta vibe where I thrive at first thought she was taught to adjust to mistrust but I'm never gonna make it with these angels in my guts let out your voice you can hear that ancient call your beauty is giant theres no need to play small oh mama shed no tear for me! too many suns to count, with the sawbills and swans an ocean of blisters, married with the swamps better soak it in cus the prairies on its way with its terrible wind and a desert full of graves but your young, your strong, divine, you hold the signs the secrets of your dreams that you paint with your eyes careful to love, so you leap in the flames, and out of the ashes you arise a wolf again.

As I sail across the prairie towards the stormy winter sky, she leans into me with her warm soprano style The air almost present, on my tongue I’ve lost control, the reins slip through fingers like smoke moves through bone. Such a lonesome kind of mood, in this dying light with you. Diggin for forgiveness in this dark hunger moon. Tie a splint on the spoke and pray the rope holds, cedar smoke and howl til the crow dog comes home. Bridge: But the sparks wont catch tinder, In this dreadful wind and rain, so we circle the wagons, to die another day. Lets burn all the caskets, and pour out the rum, for our pasts have killed the present, and their loaded with guns. Outro.
